Once again, I’ve met my goal for the 5% plan, my goal to drive 5% less; this week I drove 241.5 miles. This contrasts with the 247.7 miles per week I originally targeted.

After my initial struggles trying to meet this goal I’ve been able to do so the last few times I’ve tried. Now I’m wondering if I can squeak a bit more (or a bit less) out of this plan. What can I do to get less miles onto the truck? Maybe totally eliminating driving one day a week, which I did when gas prices were at record highs. It was an inconvenience, but it didn’t kill me.

If I decide to make this, for instance, the 10% plan instead, I’ll see what I have to do in order to meet that goal. In any case, even if gas is not nearly as expensive as it once was, any amount that I can reduce spending on gas will not just help my pocketbook, it’ll help preserve a non renewable resource and it’ll mean less money going out of the country for foreign oil. That’s a worthy goal even if the dollars aren’t enough of one!
