One of my favorite personal finance bloggers is Mrs. Micah, who blogs about frugality, freelancing, debt repayment, and all subjects personal finance. Mrs. Micah has declared February “Where’s My Money Going? Month” during which she is challenging both her readers and herself to track every penny they spend.

Interestingly, I’ve been doing just this for years with the spending log, which keeps popping up as a source of discussion on this blog.
On her blog, to make it easier for you, Mrs. Micah offers you a spreadsheet to help. My way of doing this tracking is with a composition book and my wallet–I don’t always log expenses on a daily basis, but at least three times a week, I do so.

The purpose of this challenge is, according to Mrs. Micah, “to make you aware of your spending habits and patterns.”
For me, as mentioned just a few days ago, it also helps, at least a little, to curb my spending. I don’t know if it’ll have the same effect on you, but I think that this exercise is worth a try. Give it a month–you might like it!
