State of the Blog, August 2008

I noticed that I missed updating the State of the Blog in July, so we have a bit of catchup to do. The last time I discussed how things were going with the blog, I said we had gotten into the triple digit figures in subscribers. As I write this, we’re up over 60% over that figure, so things continue to progress toward our goal (which will be rather challenging) of 500 subscribers by the end of 2008. The blog continues to produce enough income to be profitable, which is definitely exciting (and counting my other blogs and podcast, increasing)! We also participated in a whole bunch of carnivals and festivals the last couple of months, which I really enjoy doing. Someday I have to consider trying to host one.

I spent a week in Kansas City, Missouri, at Rockhurst University for the 19th annual KansasFest. I presented a few times there, the one presentation of interest to the readers of this blog might be my session called “Blogging For (Lots of) Fun and (a Little) Profit”. One of my Apple II friends, Bruce Baker, uploaded a partial video of it to YouTube:

And despite a week of traveling, we were able to continue to post new content daily without fail, thanks in no small part to a save by our buddy Kyle of Rather-Be-Shopping.

We also updated the WordPress install that powers this blog and added a couple of advertisers as well as a badge to the awesome Alltop blog aggregator. We still need to do more with PFBuzz, and there are a few other things on the back burner, but things are progressing nicely. Thanks so much for coming along for the ride!
